“Leave your nets and follow me!” Jesus said to a group of young men, and they did exactly that! Now, we expect to read about a bold move like that in the Scriptures, but we don’t always expect to see it in the context of British Columbia in 2023.

We think bold stories about following Jesus only happen in other places and times.

For sure this is too incredulous to happen in a small British Columbia town and certainly too out of the box for a Fellowship Baptist Church, right? Well, let us introduce you to Kyle, a young man in Quesnel, BC, who boldly said “yes!” to Jesus.

This month we want to introduce you to Live Free Church in Kelowna, BC!

“Building into the next generation of leaders.”

In a vision statement this sounds great, but how does this translate into reality in the context of a church community?

At the height of the COVID-19 lockdown, the launch of Leverage Pods – a mentoring program designed to facilitate relationships – seemed like a risky move, and we were surprised when over 100 women signed up for the 14-month mentoring journey with a focus on leadership development.

Courtenay Fellowship was one of the churches that joined this province-wide movement, signing up twelve women, and when they came home from the retreat held in Parksville at the conclusion of that initial mentorship journey, they decided this needed to continue within their church and it needed to be for everyone.

This month we want to introduce you to Village Church Winnipeg in Winnipeg, MB!

Garry Firth, Lead Pastor at The Meeting Place in Nanaimo, BC, knows firsthand the value of Immerse. He graduated from the Immerse program with his MDiv five years ago and now is eagerly anticipating the 2023 graduation of his own Immerse student, Peter Bird. The Meeting Place is a church that champions the development of leaders through actively identifying the next-gen leaders in their context and practicing the art of asking a very good question:

“Would you consider Immerse as the next step in your ministry leadership development?”

Some of us like looking in the mirror more than others.

But if you never actually look in a mirror, you can miss out on what is really going on—the good (like a great hair day) and the bad (think random green food in teeth).

Standing Still Gets You No Where

Believe this truth?

I am not talking about pausing to catch one’s breath or stopping to enjoy the view or slowing to evaluate one’s direction or recalibrating from failure or resting from energy well spent. I am talking about stopping, and not moving again.

The heart of the gospel is movement. God drawing close to us. Us responding back to Him. Us moving with Him. God does not call us to stand still.

God reveals this movement—His gospel—through church planting.

We absolutely love it when we get to see how our churches are living out boldly forward never alone in their communities!

One example of this has been the partnership among a few of our churches that is bringing incredible love and support to the Lytton community that is still struggling to recover from the fire and other devastating events of the past two years.
