Our community provides opportunities for Korean immigrants in Canada to deepen their encounter with Jesus Christ by caring for them in spirit and in life, and to become a part of the church community and a part of God's mission.
South Delta Baptist Church & the Korean Ministry:
South Delta Baptist Church is a missional Christian church in Delta, BC, a suburb of Vancouver. We are committed to worshiping our God and sharing the love of Jesus with our community by embodying the gospel through radical (biblical) hospitality, joining God's mission to spread the good news. We are committed to following Jesus and serving our city, our nation, and the world by obeying the Bible and living in authentic community as missionaries of Jesus Christ wherever we are. The Korean Community Church was started to fulfill the mission of this missional church, serving the needs of Koreans in our community and sharing the love of Jesus Christ in that specific demographic. South Delta is an area with a relatively small Korean population, which can make them feel isolated and lonely. We help them feel more secure and bridge the language and cultural barriers by offering ELL classes. Our service ultimately boils down to the love and salvation of the cross of Jesus Christ.

I ministered in Korea in a variety of settings and age groups. For seven years prior to coming to Canada, I preached the gospel at a Christian high school, and I felt the urgent need to continue to pass this gospel on to the children of believers in that context. I prayed for a long time that I would be able to raise up a second generation of believers, where the first generation would inevitably need to share their faith in Korean, but the second generation would be able to share their faith in English with their local friends without hesitation. God has granted us the opportunity to start such a Korean community within South Delta Baptist Church, which has been a wonderful surprise. Our community, now two years old, wants to go deeper into the church. We don't want to form our own separate community; we want to be of one mind and one heart within the larger church. SDBC church members have been very welcoming despite our cultural and language limitations. All Koreans in our community have experienced this hospitality, and now it is time for the Korean community to become more involved in the church and take on the challenge of being a committed disciple in the church. In this direction, Korean families have experienced a lot of love in the church and have been able to find true security and peace as immigrants through the church. The support, love, and prayers of the church are the driving force for us to continue this ministry.

About South Delta:
South Delta is growing and changing rapidly. It used to be not as diverse as other parts of the Lower Mainland, but our community is growing more diverse, and we have a great opportunity to minister to the city in a meaningful way because we have learned to do effective cross-cultural ministry. The Korean community within the SDBC family has taught the whole church what it is like to share life with people who do not share a common culture. This has been a great thing for our church.
South Delta is a suburban community that has a small-town feel.
South Delta is a secularized community where the gospel-centred church is a minority group in the community.
How to Pray:
Please pray that the community in which we live will come to know Jesus and follow him faithfully.
